  • Itunes not recognizing some songs by the same artist are on the same album?

Posted by admin on June 8th, 2010 and filed under album artist | 1 Comment »

Ive ticked part of compilation, ive giving each song the same album artwork of the same single image and all the same exact artist and album name and selected then right clicked ‘apply sort field/same everything’ and it still has the songs with an extended artist name like example "blah blah featuring" separate to those with just the artist "blah blah" I really don;t want to have to remove who the song is featuring is there a way to just get itunes to recognize they are from the same damn album and artist and just group them!????

Copy the artist name and then select all the songs. then right-click and click get info. then paste it under artist. then do the same with album name. then put the song featuring another artist like this – song name ft. featured artist.
then go to the options tab and click part of a compilation-yes. make sure the box beside it is ticked. then click on ok. it should work now. that’s what i do whenever i get the same problem and it works. but usually i only get this problem if it is the same album with multiple artists.

Why do people bother reading album reviews?

Posted by admin on June 5th, 2010 and filed under album reviews | 19 Comments »

    I don’t get it.

You can easily download an album, listen to it, and form your own opinion of it. Also, I don’t understand why you would want to compare your own opinion with those of the people at Pitchfork or Rolling Stones or whatever. Most of the time, the reviews are garbage, at least from what I’ve read. Sometimes, I feel like I know more hip hop than some of these "critics". And the lines they pick out are always some unimpressive sh*t they try to pass off as dope. The only reason I can see for reading a review is for an album that hasn’t been released/leaked yet, and you’re anticipating it like hell (like the early Distant Relatives review on HipHopDX).

    Someone please enlighten me.

I don’t. The mic rating at the Source is beyond garbage and so is Pitchfork. The only reviews I sorta like is DX, and even still I check the album out myself before accepting or dismissing it. Critics aren’t any more credible than you or me.

What is the resolution of CD album art?

Posted by admin on June 2nd, 2010 and filed under cd album | 2 Comments »

Hi. If one wanted to make a CD album cover/art slip, what resolution should the final image be? I’m guessing something square in dimensions, but I don’t know the exact resolution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The dimensions of a CD insert is 4.75" w x 4.715" h. This format is called a "2-panel insert" because it’s two panels if you print on both sides. If you would like to add a sophisticated touch to your design, use a "bleed print." This means the image extends off the edges of the cover. Simply extend your artwork at least 0.125" on each edge for the bleed.

When you create a new document in Photoshop you can choose different size options. In the drop down menu for size choose "inches", and then insert 4.75" (width) and 4.715" (height). If you want to know what this is in pixels simply choose "pixels" from the drop down menu and the sizes will change accordingly.

Since a CD cover design will be done for print, you will want to create your new document in CMYK mode. I usually choose 300 dpi for the resolution setting, but this varies depending on your printer’s preferences.

At 100% magnification a 300 dpi file will appear huge. You can always click on the View menu and choose Print View to get an estimate of the size it will be for print.
