  • What are some albums on which the drums are very high in the mix?

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2010 and filed under albums | 11 Comments »

Albums where the drums are very dominant and almost overpowers the other instruments.

I got that feeling on Closer by Joy Division.

    Any others?

I’ll extend on your Closer and say that pretty much every album that Martin Hannett ever produced. Hannett was obsessed with drums.

Also War by U2 is fairly heavy on the drums.

Foo Fighters: Anything past the first album probabley.

      Nirvana: Nevermind and In Utero

Rush: Any album especially 2112 and Moving Pictures

The Who: Most of the albums, mostly mid to later work.

Check out a band called Secret Machines.

Very drum heavy, very Bonham-esque sound.

I thought the drums were fairly prominent on Radiohead’s In Rainbows (especially "15 Step," "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi," and "Reckoner") and White Lies’ debut album.
